It’s easy to forget where you came from
Once the sunshine kisses your face
And the air around you stills,
When your heart is lighter
Unburdened, beating levelly.
It’s easy to forget the murky depths
The dirty water
Of which you were once rooted
Desperately pushing up, up, up!
Till one day, you breached the surface
Fully formed and lovely
With many colors proudly displayed
Gently floating on the water.
It’s easy to forget
In all your glory now
There was once struggle
Pushing back with all your might
Against an environment
Built to utterly destroy you.
But here you are —
Shining, radiant, healthy
Full of love and spreading joy
Still rooted in those muddy depths
Unseen below the surface.
Remember from whence you came
For it is you
Who will lend a hand downward
To help others rise, Lotus.
