Dearest reader,
Welcome to 2024! We made it another trip ’round the sun!
If you are anything like me, every year leading up to the first few days of New Years’ Eve you review what you did and did not accomplish in the current year, inevitably focusing on all the areas where you fell short. You mope a bit, a strange and uncomfortable seesaw between pangs of regret for not starting sooner to achieve your failed goal and determination to complete the goal was in the coming year.
Then, the first, second, and even third days of the new year roll around and you methodically record each and every resolution and goal you have, creating a detailed and hyper-intensive plan for how to get there.
It’s an exhausting cycle, and it honestly doesn’t feel natural or just plain good to spin your wheels like this. You focus so hard on the outcomes, you forget that you need to live! To enjoy your life.
What if we did something different this time around? What if instead we looked back on 2023 with love and grace for where we fell short, while also celebrating our wins? We could even look toward 2024 without the same ol’ aggressive “get ‘er done” approach, and just brew a hot cup of tea and close our eyes, envisioning the life we want peacefully.
This year, what if you let those rigid plans go, instead choosing to feel in the moment what it is you want most, and lovingly doing what is needed to get there? Even if that means learning to relax and receive.
I challenge you to try something new. Switch up your approach. See if that helps you avoid burn-out in the long run. See if that helps you avoid being so down on yourself for falling short. See if that helps you actually stick with things and slowly, with ease, reach the goals you want and create long-lasting resolutions.
With love and wishing you your happiest, healthiest, and wealthiest year yet,
Kayla
