Hello, and welcome to October! We made it. Autumn and cozy season are here!
While you may be tempted to pull on a pair of sweats, grab a pumpkin spice latte, and turn on some Halloween movies (and who could blame you?), I want you to first check in with your “joy meter.” How joyful have you felt lately? Are things getting quite busy at work and/or school? Are your relationships deepening, requiring more of your time and energy? Just like all the little animals preparing for the winter ahead, human beings also tend to burrow in for the incoming cold, preparing and working before settling in.
Before you get too cozy, I want you to reflect on where you can find more joy. What sets your soul on fire? Is it a creative project, making something with your own two hands? Or, maybe your soul is ablaze attending a CycleBar class, peddling to the beat of the music while your heart pumps. You could find joy kicking ass at work or in your studies, challenging yourself to learn new things or to come up with out-of-the-box solutions.
When the weather turns cold, we tend to either dig in too deep and just work, work, work; or, we tend to ease up on the gas and just chill on the couch while we binge our favorite shows. There’s nothing inherently wrong with these things, but we may feel more joy striving for balance. When you bring the heat of summer into your autumn consciousness, allowing the passions of the last few months to keep burning, you can keep yourself light years ahead in joy and success.
This week, engage with the below journal prompts to help assess your “joy meter” and how to stay engaged with what sets your soul on fire:
- Happiness is a fleeting emotion, whereas joy is more a state of being. When do you notice yourself in a state of joy? Are you alone, or with others? Are you doing an activity, or simply enjoying just existing?
- How can you create more opportunities for joy each day?
- What sets your soul on fire? These are the moments when you feel a palpable heat in your chest, a passion, a deep focus.
- Are there ways you can couple being in a state of joy with doing activities that set your soul on fire?
Have the best week, and cheers to what sets your soul on fire.
With love,
Kayla
