Her heels lifted off the ground
As she glided across the grass
Drifting high on her tippy-toes.
The winds of change had come
Gentle and nudging but resolute
That it was time for her to expand.
Comfort is a great thing for today
Yet it will never carry you to tomorrow
For tomorrow demands a taken chance.
She fought against the force at first
Tearful and fearful to be carried away
All the while unable to dig in her heels.
The coolness of the air pimpled her skin
It raised her arms out like a bird
Only then did she realize she was flying.
Exquisite and delicate wings expanded
Blue with a touch of lilac, silk and fragile
Yet able to withstand a storm.
The anxiety and limiting beliefs vanished
Replaced by the firmness of knowing
Feet may fail but wings never falter.
Eyes glazed over, she shook awake
By the sudden gust of tree-shaking wind
And bid adieu to her butterfly companion.
