You’ve traveled far away from home
In lands of new and old unknown
With bare feet bleeding in the snow
And trails of red everywhere you go.
Heavy heart and determined eyes
No one that you recognize
Only dark and stormy skies
All alone no matter how you try.
You recall days when it was easy
Never a burden to be alive and breathing
No intention of ever leaving
No remorse for the lies you were weaving.
But soon enough they found you out
Uncovered the truths you lied about
Attacked and clawed at your mouth
No more could you scream and shout.
You started anew with hope and healing
Moving past old wounds, no longer grieving
New faces and names unaware of your thieving
Most proud of the new life you were leading.
A man from before came to the square
Smiling and playing, you were unaware
Sounded the alarm upon your past
Vowing you had better run fast.
Alone and in the forest afraid
Tears remember the price you paid
You’re a new person, no longer the same
Thought you’d be fine if you changed your name.
On to the next town in search of home
Over hills and lakes and canyons you’ll roam
Looking again for a new beginning
Where no one knows of your past sinning.
Your past isn’t who you are now
You’ll find a home – it won’t be long now.
You will find a home
It will not be long now.
